A Tale of 2 Cabinets: Go Bold or Go Home

Who says cabinets have to be stained a wood color or painted and glazed in the predictable white, cream or black. Sometimes, stepping out with the greatest risk will bring the greatest reward, like this wall of red cabinetry in a room filled with 19th century styled wood furnishings.

Project:

Design a dining room with some signature wow factor. For their first floor, my clients and I have decided upon a 5th Avenue chic color palette of soft grays, cream and key flashes of vibrant red.

Challenge:

  1. Client hosts VERY large gatherings and needs more serving surface areas
  2. Client desperately needs concealed storage
  3. Red is a hot, powerful color and would overwhelm this client in too great a dose – it’s all about quiet palettes with pops of red

Red Cabinets Closeup

This show stopping flash of red is the strongest and largest red sweep in the entire 1st floor. We built the cabinets to encase the entry to the butler’s pantry so one has the sense of walking right though the cabinets. Tons of serving space is created above, topped with Carrara for elegance and servicablity. Custom red framed mirrors reflect the sparkly crystal chandelier’s light and wall to wall storage below is the perfect spot for all things needed for entertaining.
